The road to DrupalCon 2010

I just filled out the contest application to attend DrupalCon 2010 put on by www.drupalmodules.com. While I do hope I win, I'll probably be going regardless. Drupalcon DC was a fantastic experience, however I really do have to change my outlook when it comes to attending conferences like this. I used to think that I would "learn" a great deal by going to the sessions and "working" around others in the industry. This is of course not entirely the case. You do learn, but not about processes, how to use a module, etc. It's more like the University atmosphere for drupal. You go to learn about technology, where it's going, how it works, and talk to those that are doing it.

This year I am going to DupalCon with a different attitude. I will not be bringing my "Pro Drupal Development" book, because there won't be time to read it. I won't shy from asking questions, even "stupid" ones. Just because I've been using drupal for many years doesn't mean I can't know key fundamentals. Lastly I will make more friends. I hung out with a number of great people, made some contacts and had a great time. This year I hope things are even bigger and better.
